In October, 2018, Howrah Lions Club in West Bengal, India and Maheshwari Foundation identified a need to commission a Blood Bank in Howrah. Howrah is located across from Kolkata, on the western bank of the Hooghly River. Howrah is one of the most densely urbanized cities (population of 5 million people) of India and lacks a well-functioning private blood bank.

 

The Blood Bank and Thalassemia Clinic is being commissioned at the Jadurberia Hospital of Howrah Lions’ Club and is expected to be completed by the middle of 2019 at a cost of under ₹1 Crore (~$150,000).

 

The Foundation is grateful to the Howrah Lions’ Club for giving such an opportunity to commission a high impact project in and around Howrah.
